Johnson County offers so much for someone who enjoys the great outdoors!  We know that family time and nature are important, and in Johnson County beauty abounds with four glorious seasons.

Thousands of acres of Shawnee National Forest run through Johnson County, and you can access the woods and trails from a number of places.

In the southern part of the county you’ll find the Cache River Wetlands, complete with interpretive center to help you enjoy your visit.

For those who like camping, hiking, waterfalls, bluffs, ferns, and more of the great outdoors, a visit to Fern Clyffe State Park is a must. Primitive Campsites and RV hook-ups along with shower facilities are available.

In 1994, the governor of Illinois declared Johnson County the “Bicycle Capital of Illinois.” Come to the Tunnel Hill State Trail headquarters in Vienna and learn about the railroad right-of-way which has been converted into miles of bicycle paths. The 47 1/2 mile long trail will take you along farmland, through bluffs, and into the lush Cypress and Tupelo Cache River Natural Area. You can even ride through an old railroad tunnel!

If golf is your passion, a visit to the Gambit Golf Club is a must! Eighteen holes set on undulating terrain challenge golfers of any level.
